A unique mélange of adventure, romance, fantasy, and comedy, “The Princess Bride” has earned a devoted audience since it debuted in 1987.

Set in the time of Robin Hood, “The Princess Bride” is a fairy tale come to life with the brave and handsome suitor (Cary Elwes) who must win his entrancing lady (Robin Wright), against the evil and all-powerful prince (Chris Sarandon). We are immersed in a land of gorgeous vistas and feudal castles, with ruthless villains, all-out combat, hair-raising escapes, and melting romance. Also,many, many laughs along the way, with a cast that includes Wallace Shawn, Mandy Patinkin, André the Giant, Christopher Guest, and Peter Falk. You’ll never forget a scene with Billy Crystal and Carol Kane, as unrecognizable crones.

Director Rob Reiner brings it all together, as he did with his earlier tour de force, “This is Spinal Tap.”

“The Princess Bride” plays once only on Thursday, June 9, at 9:30 p.m. All seats are $9.00. Moviegoers are strongly urged to buy advance tickets at the box office or online, as the show may sell out. Arriving early is a good idea, in order to choose your seat and also order delicious food and wine or beer.

See the genius of Leonardo at the Cerrito!

On Thursday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. Rialto Cinemas Cerrito will show “Art and Architecture: Leonardo da Vinci—The Genius in Milan.” This special event will showcase many facets of Leonardo’s wide-ranging mind and talents, including art, science, utopian ideas, anatomy, mechanics and more. The exhibition is the result of six years of work by Leonardo experts Pietro Marani and M. Teresa Fiorio.

You can buy your tickets for this event online or at the box office. All seating is reserved (i.e. not general admission), and tickets are $15 each.

Benefit for Madera Elementary: The Goonies

See the Goonies and support Madera Elementary on May 14 at 10:00 a.m.!

On Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. Rialto Cinemas Cerrito will show The Goonies as a benefit fundraiser for Madera Elementary School. The story is about a group of kids who set out to find a pirate’s treasure in order to save their neighborhood from being turned into a golf course. Not only do they have to find the treasure in time, but they also have to keep ahead of the bad guys who are after the same loot. The movie features Josh Brolin before he became a star, and also the Raiders’ own John Matuszak as Sloth.

Madera is a public school that relies on the PTA to raise funds for supplies and enrichment programs. You can support Madera while having a great time! You can buy your tickets online or at the box office. All tickets are $9.00.
