Beware of what’s under the Christmas tree, with “Gremlins” at the Cerrito on Thursday, December 12 at 7:00!
“Gremlins” takes place in a small town, which Norman Rockwell might have created, in which people start preparing for Christmas many months in advance. Eccentric inventor Randall Peltzer, in looking for an original Christmas gift for his teenage son Billy, visits a Chinatown store and buys a fuzzy, cute little creature—despite warnings not to ever expose him to bright light, water, or feed him after midnight.
Guess what happens when the initially-endearing creature is accidentally exposed to these no-nos!
The movie is partly hilarious comedy—with send-ups of small-town traditions—and part horror story, as the creature whom Billy calls “Gizmo” explosively proliferates in an all-out nasty way. The special effects are indeed special.
Besides Randall Peltzer, played by Hoyt Axton, there are involving sub-plots with Billy, played by Zach Gilligan, his girlfriend Kate, played by Phoebe Cates, and a host of excellently-portrayed small-town characters. Comedian Howie Mandel provides the voice of Gizmo.
“Gremlins” was a big success when it was released, and it became a cult Christmas-time movie. Don’t miss it!
“Gremlins” will play only once at the Cerrito, on Thursday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. Moviegoers are strongly advised to buy advance tickets at the box office or online, as the feature may sell out. All seats are $9.50. Arriving early is a good idea, in order to choose your seat and also order delicious food and wine or beer.

So many tempting choices at Scene! There are flatbread pizzas, a charcuterie and cheese sampler, baked sandwiches, “bites,” salads, desserts, and much more. You can enjoy them there, or have them brought to your seat while you watch the movie. The atmospheric food/wine bar is a fun place to hang out, with special wines and beers available. Check it out!
