“Monty Python’s Life of Brian” (1979) at the Cerrito on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00

Partake of a unique view of history, with “Monty Python’s Life of Brian” at the Cerrito on Thursday, April 18, at 7:00!

Leave your preconceptions behind but your sense of humor intact, as the Cerrito Theater celebrates the 40th anniversary of “Monty Python’s Life of Brian.”

Highly controversial upon its original release, Monty Python delivers a scathing, anarchic satire of both religion and Hollywood’s depiction of all things biblical. “Monty Python’s Life of Brian is now highly ranked among movie comedies.

Set in 33 A.D. Judea, where exasperated Romans are trying to impose some order, it is a time of chaos and change with no shortage of messiahs and followers willing to believe in them.

At its center is Brian Cohen, played by Graham Chapman, a reluctant would-be messiah who rises to prominence as a result of a series of absurd circumstances providing ample opportunity for the entire Monty Python ensemble, including John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, to shine in multiple roles as they question everyone and everything from ex-lepers, Pontius Pilate and the art of haggling, to revolutionaries, crazy prophets, religious fanaticism, Roman centurions and crucifixion.

“Monty Python’s Life of Brian” plays once only on Thursday, August 18 at 7:00. As an added-on Classic, the Cerrito’s regular prices will be in effect: $12.95 for adults, $11.50 for seniors 62 and over, kids and students with I.D. It’s advisable to order your tickets in advance at the box office or online, as the show may sell out.
