“Best in Show” at the Cerrito on Thursday, November 10 at 9:30

“Best in Show” is your best bet at the Cerrito on Thursday, November 10 at 9:30 p.m.!

From shih-tzu to bloodhound, Christopher Guest’s mockumentary about the Mayflower Dog Show skewers an unimaginable range of dog owners, in their obsession to take home the top prize.

There is the nearly identical yuppie couple, and the Anna Nicole Smith-type whose husband is a befogged elderly zillionaire. All are fair game. Some of the many talented actors are Christopher Guest, Parker Posey, Catherine O’Hara, and Eugene Levy. Fred Willard plays an unintentionally hilarious TV commentator as the dogs do—or don’t do—their routines in the arena.

If you love dogs, you’ll love this movie. If you hate dogs and their owners, you’ll also love the movie.

“Best in Show” plays once only on Thursday, November 10, at 9:30 p.m. All seats are $9.00. Moviegoers are strongly advised to buy advance tickets at the box office or online, as many shows sell out. Arriving early is a good idea, in order to choose your seat and also order delicious food and wine or beer.

“Purple Rain” (1984) at the Cerrito, Thursday, September 8, at 9:30 p.m.

Time to revisit Prince’s stunning movie debut at the Cerrito on Thursday, September 8, at 9:30!

The world lost one of its brightest stars with the untimely passing of Prince this spring. Go back in time and experience his greatness once again. “Purple Rain” is loosely autobiographical. In it, the Kid (Prince) is on the rise with his band, The Revolution. He is trying to escape his tumultuous family life, navigate the club scene, and pursue a rocky relationship with the captivating singer, Apollonia.

And Prince’s music is at the heart of the movie! As the blog The Movie Sleuth states, the movie shows Prince at the top of his form; he had “blurred the lines between his own sexually charged funk, guitar rock, dance music, and the electronic instruments that were about to take the musical world by storm.”

“Purple Rain” plays once only on Thursday, September 8, at 9:30 p.m. All seats are $9.00. Moviegoers are strongly advised to buy advance tickets at the box office or online, as many shows sell out. Arriving early is a good idea, in order to choose your seat and also order delicious food and wine or beer.
