Celebrating Cerrito Theater on the 20th Anniversary of Its Reopening
The Cerrito Theater originally opened in 1939, closed in the 1970s, and reopened November 1, 2006 thanks to the Friends of the Cerrito Theater, the El Cerrito Historical Society, the City of El Cerrito, Speakeasy Cinemas, and others.
Few movie theaters reopen after decades in the dark. But support in El Cerrito led to the theater’s return to life. Today Rialto Cinemas Cerrito remains our hometown theater. Let’s mark this occasion by learning about the revival and enjoying an inspiring new documentary. “The Last Pictures Shows,” by Rustin Thompson, is about cinephiles preserving theaters throughout the western U.S. Rustin Thompson will lead a Q and A session after the movie.
This event is jointly sponsored by Friends of Cerrito Theater and The El Cerrito Historical Society. Tickets for this free event are available only at the box office. Refreshments will be for sale at the concessions counter.
