“What’s Up, Doc?” (1972) at the Cerrito on Thursday, November 8, at 7:00.

Get set for a wild ride in “What’s Up, Doc?” at the Cerrito on Thursday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m.!

In a San Francisco hotel, a mix-up with four matching suitcases sets off a zany chain of events, involving Barbra Streisand, in her perfect comic persona as a freeloading diva, Ryan O’Neal, a music professor with whom she instantly falls in love, and a special treat, with Madeline Kahn, in her film debut, as his uptight fiancée. Supporting roles by Kenneth Mars and Austin Pendleton add spice to the mix.

The movie is the creation of Peter Bogdanovich, who pays homage to the screwball comedies of the 30’s, specifically the masterpiece “Bringing Up Baby,” directed by Howard Hawks. The writing and comic timing are first-rate.

Do yourself a favor and enjoy non-stop laughs with “What’s Up, Doc?”
