Don’t miss the Cerrito Theater’s 80th birthday!
1937 was a very big year in El Cerrito. Not only was the town now 20 years old, but it acquired a brand-new luxurious neighborhood theater, the Cerrito. It opened to big crowds and great acclaim.
Kick off the Centennial Celebration on Thursday, September 14, at 6:00. Outside the theater, listen as a jazzy duo, Leftover Dreams, recreates songs from the 30’s and beyond. Ogle a classic 1938 Packard, parked in front. If the mood strikes you, come in vintage clothing.
At 7:00, inside the theater, a brief program begins. Afterwards, on the big screen, watch a hilarious screwball comedy, “The Awful Truth” from—yes—1937! It stars none other than Cary Grant and Irene Dunne as glittering New York City socialites who are totally in love—until they aren’t. Could Ralph Bellamy have something to do with it? Remember, in a screwball comedy, anything can happen—and love always wins.
Tickets are now available—buy yours now, because the party is certain to sell out. You can buy online or at the theater box office. Tickets are only $9.00 for all seats.
