Change in scheduling for Cerrito Classics.

Cerrito Classics series has a new schedule starting with Lolita!

Our favorite monthly movie showing—the Cerrito Classics—is back in business in September after a summer hiatus. But the schedule will be different—earlier in most cases, though some showings may be later. Showings are always the second Thursday of the month.

Friends of the Cerrito Theater, which works with Rialto Cinemas to choose and promote this series, would prefer that the classics continue to be shown at 7 p.m. But the business model followed by Rialto, which involves showing top, first-run films from major studios, precludes this. At least for now.

So rather than grump about it we are going to enjoy the movies. Please join us! The strange and hilarious Stanley Kubrick film ‘Lolita’ opens the series at 3:30 p.m. Thursday September 10. Subsequent films will generally be shown at 4 or 4:15, the last matinee of the day. Some months may have late showings instead, at 9:30 p.m. or so.
‘Lolita,’ based on the novel by Vladimir Nabokov, is a black comedy that stars the wonderfully droll James Mason, Shelley Winters, Peter Sellers, and Sue Lyon as Lolita. It’s 152 minutes long and compelling throughout.

Tickets will be available at the box office or the Rialto Cinemas Cerrito web site.
