Barbra Streisand’s role of a lifetime!
Barbra Streisand was born to play the title role in “Funny Girl” (1968). Streisand’s depiction of legendary entertainer Fanny Brice perfectly captures her own talent and relentless drive as well. Prior to the movie, Streisand had starred in the mega-hit Broadway show of the same name.
“Funny Girl” tells the story of comedienne Fanny Brice, who fast-talked her way into show business, certain that she’s going to become “The Greatest Star.” She was an instant hit in the Ziegfeld Follies and soon fell into a tempestuous relationship with big-time gambler Nicky Arnstein, played by Omar Sharif. Their love affair is the red-hot center of the movie.
Full of showstopping musical numbers by Streisand, including “My Man,” “Second Hand Rose,” “People” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” the movie swept the Oscars, winning Best Picture, Best Actress for Streisand, and three other Oscars. It was also the top-grossing movie of the year.
